Apple rumored to work on expanding high-speed data centers

In the wake of today’s announcements at Apple’s 2015 World Wide Developers conference, there is rumors of the Cupertino tech giant, to be working on enhancing its cloud data centers with higher speeds and performance, through long-haul pipes connecting each one of its four cloud infrastructures in California, Nevada, North Carolina and Oregon.

Apple new data center

Following the release of Apple Music, Apple will be hard pressed to handle increased data transfer loads, and higher server space requirements.

Existing services, as well as future services which will be needed to handle the increased bandwidth required by Apple Music, will still be handled by HP servers, and Cisco Ethernet switches, however, sword has it that Apple is in talks with manufacturers to build its own data center infrastructure, using proprietary hardware, which will likely be deployed in Arizona, as the only US location for the moment, and in international locations, such as Ireland and Denmark.

Apple has been one of the biggest spenders in cloud service infrastructures since its introduction of iCloud in 2011. In 2014, Apple has invested $1Billion, matching Microsoft, Google and Amazon.

Apple has been rather secretive about its plans, but sources close to Apple are confirming, unofficially, the rumors, emphasizing that Apple wants “...its own pipes linking its four large U.S. data centers and Internet hubs in certain cities to ensure fast, reliable delivery of content and services...”.
