Apple rumored to announce new 15inch MacBook Pro and 27inch iMac this Wednesday

Citing unknown sources, French news site MacGeneration reports on rumors of a 15inch MacBook Pro and a 27inch iMac announcement, slated for this week, on Wednesday.

There is very little information on how accurate these rumors may be, but as we have pointed out in previous articles, at least pertaining to the 15inch MacBook Pro, shipping times have been drastically reduced, and according to a report by AppleInsider, from last week, built-to-order customization of the 15inch MacBook Pro, are no longer available.

Information on the impending release of the new laptop, aimed at professional users, suggest that the new big screen MacBook will be powered by the new Intel Broadwell processor, in a quad-core configuration.

As for the 27inch iMac, there is very little information available as well, especially on whether the update will apply to the Retina 5K version of the iMac, or to the non-retina iMac.

An upgrade of the non-Retina Apple iMac seems more likely, as the company seems to want to extend Retina availability to all displays of its devices. Another reason is video memory, which, in case of a Retina upgrade, could see a significant boost.

Why so soon?

While we initially thought that the new announcements would be made during the WWDC2015, an earlier announcement makes sense, as the focus of the conference will be mostly on software, and possibly the future of the Apple Watch, and Apple Pay.

Another reason for an early announcement, could be Microsoft’s impending release of Windows 10, and the subsequent release of the Windows 10-powered Surface Pro 4, which will also integrate a Broadwell processor. Microsoft’s strategy seems to be that of tackling as many Apple products as possible, including the iPad Mini, for which Microsoft has planned to release a Mini version of its Surface tablet.
