Apple announces updated 15 inch MacBook Pro and 27 inch iMac Retina 5K


In a recent official press release, Apple has announced an updated 15 inch MacBook Pro, with force Touch, as well as a new 27 inches iMac Retina 5K, in the wake of related rumors which started roughly two weeks ago, as changes in iMac shipping times were detected as a signal of a potential announcement.

Meet the new 15 inch MacBook Pro

A refresh of the 15 inch version of the MacBook Pro has been in the back burner for a while, now finally available, in its base configuration, starting at $1,999, featuring a Quad Core 2.2Ghz Intel i7 Broadwell CPU, with Turbo Boost support up to 3.4Ghz, 16GB of memory, 256GB of flash storage, and Intel Iris Pro GPU.

In its $2,499 upgraded configuration, the new 15 inch model features a 2.5Ghz i7 CPU (Turbo Boost up to 3.7Ghz), 512GB of flash storage, and AMD Radeon R9 M370X GPU. BTO options include 1TB flash storage, and 2.8Ghz CPU, with Turbo Boost up to 4.0Ghz.

Both configurations and BTO options are available today.

According to the press release, the flash storage available in the updated 15 inch MacBook Pro is 2.5 times faster than in previous iterations, featuring transfer speeds of up to 2GBps.

What’s in the new 27 inch iMac Retina 5K

The new 27 inch iMac 5K has been reintroduced in two configurations. The entry-level $1,999 configuration, features 3.3 Ghz Quad Core Intel i5 processor (3.7Ghz in Turbo Boost mode), and 1TB of storage, and AMD Radeon R9 M290. The top configuration features 3.5Ghz CPU, AMD Radeon R9 M290X, and 1TB Fusion drive, with a price tag of $2,299. BTO options for the iMac include an Intel i7 CPU up to 4.0Ghz, and 1TB flash storage.
