Apple Mac Mini 2016 could be more than a refresh at WWDC

Sources are reporting that the Mac Mini, one of the most brilliant desktops Apple has ever made, and also one of the most neglected, will be introduced, if anything even as a subtle hint, at WWDC 2016.

Mac Mini 2016 concept

Unconfirmed rumors have been consistently hinting to a complete redesign of the Mac Mini, which will be thinner, thanks to more efficient internal hardware, which will include a 7th generation Kaby Lake processor, and an SSD to replace the HDD currently available on the 2014 Mac Mini, which was the last MacMini model to be updated by Apple.

With that said, it’s unlikely that this new iteration of the Mac Mini will be released prior to the end of 2016, as such will be the release date of the Kaby Lake chip from Intel.

Apple TV-like functions

There is speculation that the new and improved Apple TV will come with support for 4K/5K screens, as well as Thunderbolt 3 ports and USB Type-C, which would enable the Mac Mini to become a low-profile home entertainment system. However, it’s unlikely that Apple will provide Mac Mini customers with accessories like a Mac Mini remote, or even compatibility with the Siri Remote that comes with Apple TV.

Speaking of 4K and 5K support, this rumor could be very real, as recent reports of shrinking supplies of the Apple Thunderbolt display are hinting to an imminent launch of what could be a new Apple display for the mac, one that supports resolutions consistent with the iMac Retina 5K.
