£15,000 one-of-a-kind iPad Pro to be auctioned off: proceeds to London’s Design Museum
Last week, Apple’s Chief Design Officer Jonathan Ive has donated an original, one-of-a-kind version of the iPad Pro, to be auctioned off, with proceeds to be go towards the London’s Design Museum.
The unique 12.9 inch iPad Pro donated by Ive and the Apple Design Team,, features a yellow back, and a blue leather smart cover, and comes with an Apple Pencil with a gold color trim. The Apple Pencil included with the unique iPad Pro, comes also with its own leather case, in orange.
Phillips, the auction house handling the sale of the device, has not released information on the specs of the iPad Pro, however, we can only assume that internals are not different than the models available to consumers.
According to Phillips, the item is expected to sell for at least £10,000 to £15,000. The funds gathered from the sale, will be used in the relocation of London’s Design Museum, which centers on “Affordably Priced Design Objects”. Apple’s interest in supporting the museum is understandable, considering Apple’s obsession for design in all devices and accessories.
This is not the first time for Apple to donate a uniquely designed product. In 2013, the Apple Design Team, once again under Jony Ive’s lead, created a red version of the Apple Mac Pro, initially listed between $40,000 and $60,000, with proceeds going towards charity. Other items created for the same (RED) Charity campaign included a pair of Apple Earpods in solid gold, and a unique Leica Digital Rangefinder Camera, described as a “...feat of extraordinary engineering...”.
