At less than two months from the official release of the 4th generation Apple TV, tech website iFixit were able to come by, and promptly disassemble a unit, for our viewing pleasure.

According to Apple’s latest filings with the U.S. Patent and Trademark office, the iPhone maker could apply the working principles described in its new patent, titled “Wireless Device Networks with Smoke Detection Capabilities”, into future iPhone devices, as well as other products, including future HomeKit devices.

Apple TV is finally getting a big revamp, and could come as early as next month, as Apple prepares to unveil the next version of the iPhone. The brand new iteration of Apple’s iconic set top box comes with code name J34, and will run a full version of iOS 9 optimized for TV screens, as well as its own App Store, a new developers SDK, and a remote control.

After refreshing almost its entire line of MacBooks, Macs and iOS devices, including the long awaited upgrade of the iPod Touch, Apple is reportedly finally on track to release a new version of Apple TV, which has been on the back burner for a while. A big hint on the refresh of the device was given out at an early keynote in which Apple announced an exclusive deal to stream HBO Now programming on Apple TV. At the time, the company announced also a considerable price cut on Apple TV, which is something that Apple typically does when planning on a product update.
