Earlier this week, the team at Google decided to let the public in on Google Glass. This accessory is among the first in what most analysts expect to be a wide range of wearable technology. And, in the case of Glass, it projects necessary information right in front of your eyes, so that you won't even have to move to look something up or have an online conversation with someone.
When they were announced last year, it was easy to see why many onlookers didn't quite get it. After all, this would be an incredibly disruptive form of technology. A slew of parody videos appeared online, showing people running into things because the projections from their Glass disrupted their path - and it's easy to see how that could happen.
In order to combat this initial skepticism, Google's engineers have decided to have a pilot program of individuals to try out - and shape the future of - Glass. Though they sort of resemble something out of Star Trek, Google Glass might just one day replace our customized laptops.
Analysts note that the company appears to be taking a page out of tech giant Apple's book and setting up Google stores, presumably where curious customers could come try out this and other Google-made gadgets like the Nexus line of tablets, and the many Chromebooks flooding the market.
Most insiders freely admit that it will be a while before all of us are throwing out our iPad minis and donning some of this clunky-looking headgear, but the curious in the tech community are always watching to see what the next big thing will be. And that thing might just be the Google Glass.
