It's no secret that water is the enemy of all electronics. Whether it's you or someone you know, chances are that you're familiar with a horror story about a computer getting fried by a spilled bottle of water the night before a term paper is due, or a friend dropping their smartphone into a toilet while sleepwalking. Since accidental water damage isn't covered by most warranties, a little moisture could have you totally out of luck.
And that's not to mention all of the data typically stored on a cell phone, tablet or customized laptop, which can make a water-related disaster into a much bigger problem. That's why so many of us will try just about anything if we find our device submerged, including trying the trick of leaving it in a bag of uncooked rice to suck up the moisture.
While this has been a myth for some time now, few people know for sure whether it works. The internet is full of first-hand accounts detailing the fact that this trick can save almost any device that's gotten wet.
Though it would likely take a Mythbusters-scale group of scientists to study the idea of putting electronics into rice to dry them out, if your iPad mini or other device has recently gotten wet and now isn't working, it's certainly worth a shot.
Just make sure that it's switched off, and submerge it in uncooked rice for anywhere from a few hours to a few days. With any luck, your tablet will be up and running again in no time. And if it's not, you might want to call the experts at PortableOne to talk about creating a better, customized technology that does everything you wanted it to.
