Apple iPad Mini 4 is officially faster than both iPhone 6 and 6 Plus
Apple’s announcement of the iPad Mini 4 was barely a footnote at the “Hey Siri” keynote event, justifiably so, as Apple TV, and iPhone 6S / 6S Plus, unquestionably stole the show.
According to a recent teardown by iFixit, we now have confirmation of the internal specs of the iPad Mini 4.
The device appears to run on a 1.5GHz A8 processor, with 2GB of RAM.This places the iPad Mini 4 above the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus in terms of performance, as well as the iPad Mini 2 and 3, both running a 1.3GHz A7 CPU.
A 5,124mAh, single-cell battery was also revealed, which is smaller than the 6,471mAh battery in the iPad 3, although according to Apple, the iPad Mini 4 outperforms the iPad Mini 3’s battery life, most likely thanks to updated hardware and a more energy efficient A8 cpu.
Apple has gone through great lengths to slim down the iPad Mini, including a smaller FaceTime camera and LCD screen, the latter of which is now fused together with the exterior glass panel. The antennas have also been moved to the bottom of the device.
The iPad Mini 4 is now 6.1mm thick, which, compared to the 7.5mm iPad Mini 3, is 1.4mm thinner, and lighter.
The resolution of the iPad Mini 4 is unchanged from the iPad 3’s Retina display, still at 2048 x 1536 (326ppi). Touch-ID of course was to be expected, as a feature now covering all iPad, iPod Touch and iPhone product lines.
Finally, the iPad Mini 4 features the same 8MP iSight camera found in the iPad Air, while retaining the 1.2MP front facing FaceTime camera.
